About this deal

It would be years before I reckoned with my own queerness, but I knew this was a significant piece of information. While it had a lot of the same campy snark and 50's "gay" double entendre references, it was missing something for me that Lois Lenz had. That, plus the student-teacher affairs, is what made this a three-star book instead of four—all the atmosphere and lead up was a great ton of fun, but the end felt kind of rushed and nonsensical. It reminds me another series that I’ve heard about, which is about spies in Washington, not gym teachers: this one strikes me as the same kind of entertainment!

Roberta "Bobby" Blanchard is crushed when an accident forces her to leave the glamorous world of professional field hockey. As a middle school student, my time was split between nagging teachers, nagging guidance counselors, and my nagging mother. Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, Virgin Islands (U. She decides to go the gym to get back in shape but her first time is a disaster: she has no idea what she's doing. There is no shame in the characters regarding their sexuality, but the 1964 setting means society may have something to say about two women (and at one point there is a raid on a lesbian bar).I found the characters' clunky understanding and application of adolescent psychology annoying - Bobby would read one textbook and suddenly understand her students (including obvious things that she should've understood before), and all the teachers went around quoting psychology texts. But Bobby's arrival at the elite boarding school will unearth more than one girl's hidden abilities, and spur some ardent rivalry between pupils--and teachers--on and off the field, including.

You can guarantee that married or not, man or woman, teenager or adult, everyone is (note that very few men appear in Nolan’s novels).

Bobby Blanchard is an enjoyable read, one that I was happier to pick up and read to my husband each night than Lois Lenz, Lesbian Secretary. Change country: -Select- Australia Austria Belgium Brazil Canada Chile China Czech Republic Denmark Finland France Germany Greece Hong Kong Hungary India Indonesia Ireland Italy Japan Malaysia Netherlands New Zealand Norway Philippines Poland Portugal Puerto Rico Saint Helena Slovakia South Africa South Korea Spain Sweden Switzerland Taiwan Thailand Turkey United Kingdom United States Vatican City State Virgin Islands (U. I don’t think I’ve read a book in which all notable characters are Queer, that’s a really interesting concept, especially for a book set in the 60s. here's my youtube and tiktok to see what kind of fitness content I've been creating - critiques are appreciated as I'm trying to create space for myself in the fitness industry as a non-binary lesbian. Society is never one character; it’s a presence, though, allowing Nolan to overlap her imagined world and reality.

By the way, the teacher has never behaved unprofessionally — nor is anyone worried that she might — it is simply an issue of discomfort. Bobby Blanchard, Lesbian Gym Teacher felt more grown up, in a way, because she knows she’s a lesbian. The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings.I liked that there was real world reference to that but that the actual story revolved around characters acting like being a lesbian was common. When the mystery was solved at the end of Lois Lenz, Lesbian Secretary, I thought it was a bit silly. How refreshing though, to read a book that is so open with the sexuality of its characters and I admit, I kind of like the idea that women are the focus and men are in the background. As Games Mistress at Metamora Academy, she's dismayed to learn that sports take a backseat to literary and artistic pursuits. The next in the Career-Girl series, and so far the only one to take place largely away from the Magdalena Arms.
