About this deal

So who will save the day when everything goes disgustingly wrong aboard ship and all the big Vikings lose their cool? At first I thought what are the odds that there is another Viking kid with the name of Hiccup who is afraid only to realise at the end of the book that this is the same Hiccup that the movie is based on. The art is very much the same as in Cressida's other works (obviously, since she is the illustrator as far as I'm aware), so it does feel like a part of the httyd series/universe. Beautiful, washed illustrations capture the emotion and adventure of the high seas with a softness that will appeal to children and parents, while the bold text tells a remarkable tale that will capture imaginations and drive young readers wild with delight.

I suppose the trip is supposed to show how Hiccup overcomes his fear; that although scared, he steers the ship back to safety when others aren't able to.

The art is adorable and there is no way to describe how you feel when you first see the characters that make up so much of the How to Train Your Dragon series. I'm so glad I found this little story on YouTube before starting my journey with this series (which I just received in the mail today). This is a lovely book; it is warm and witty, with instant appeal and the deft touch we have come to expect from Cressida Cowell.

Unlike his dad, Stoick the Vast, Hiccup is tiny, thoughtful and polite and scared of almost everything - especially of going to sea for the very first time. We both love love Cressida Cowell's adorable illustrations, and while I appreciate the story as Hiccup's first step to a greater destiny of being able to overcome fear to do what must be done, my son just likes a little boy like him who is brave, and the hero of the story. Some may think that children's books are too small, simple, and menial to have an "Art," but that is just not true. The Vikings are lost in a terrible storm, and it's up to Hiccup to help them find their way home again. This is a perfect picture book for all children aged between three and six who love Vikings and watching grown-ups come unstuck!
