About this deal

We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, traditions and living cultures; and we pay our respects to Elders past and present.

When the novel opens, Sylvie has learned that a child Scott coached on the wrestling team has died, and the suspected cause is hazing. I have to admit that before reading Everything We Ever Wanted I had never read a Sara Shepard novel.

Flesh and Bone and Water looked at young love across the social and ethnic divides in 1980s Brazil, delving into layers of history, both national and personal.

For disregarding the pseudo-science that bogs down and overcomplicates so much modern sci-fi with needless tedium. This book focuses on many issues, and many of which are important issues, but personally I wish the story focused more on the hazing and assumed suicide of the student, which is what I thought the book was primarly about, but so many more issues are involved in this book, adultery, racial issues, secret pasts, etc. I realize this now that after reading it was advertised more so as realistic fiction, so I guess that's my fault. It’s not a terrible life; she works, goes to the pub with her colleagues, has lunch with her family and chats with her university best friend and current housemate Kiran but there’s always a dark shadow in her mind threatening to cloud over her at any time. The self-destructive behavior of some of her characters may hit a little close to home for some readers, and I think that many readers may recognize themselves in some of the characters.Sauma knows that we all want life to be more than it is; that we long for the connections it offers to be fuller and richer.
