About this deal

I’m very happy that people liked the book, but it was really actually written for us as kind of a memory so we wouldn’t forget these stories when we got older. Language - Regardless of country of origin all tracks are sung in English, unless otherwise stated in our description.

They didn’t just identify one new area to move into but were constantly and simultaneously breaking new ground in many different ways, innovating but very rarely consolidating, minting sounds and styles as they zipped past, like it was no problem to them at all. Certainly, especially with the non-traditional instruments, you get the feeling from this point that Celtic Frost were a band prepared to push a few boundaries. It’s a shame to get the repeated tracks, but it does allow the listener to compare songs more closely and get a feel for the way the band were working on their sound. A "Danse Macabre" woven patch, a double-sided poster, and a Necromaniac Union fan club enamel badge complete the set.Ain was soon brought back into the fold and a few songs from "To Mega Therion" were re-recorded and remixed with Harris Johns, emerging as the excellent sounding "Tragic Serenades" EP. And then of course, Martin and I had our very complex history, especially with Hellhammer, but also with Celtic Frost.

Intensely heavy, nuanced and experimental, the record was a radical musical statement of intent; a stunning synthesis of Warrior and Ain's disparate influences. Originally a mix of thrash and black metal, later material would mix other more experimental threads (gothic, for example).Looking back, it’s tempting to see the Hellhammer of Spring 1984 as dogs who have just had their first beating. Of course, if you look at the decade dispassionately now with the benefit of hindsight, you can see clearly that the true epitome of modernism in new music was happening in heavy metal, hidden in plain sight. It is intense, blistering, but as you’d expect from such a debut it’s still a little rough’n’ready in places. A “Danse Macabre” woven patch, a double-sided poster, and a Necromaniac Union fan club enamel badge complete the set.

Celtic Frost’s first statement for the ages came later the same year in the shape of To Mega Therion; its Wagnerian introduction ‘Innocence And Wrath’ and HR Giger art signifying, perhaps for the first time, just how serious Tom Warrior was. It should simply be a few people who played as friends in a very unusual band, paying homage to probably one of the most important members of this band, Martin Erich Ain. Third album Cold Lake took a different direction and although I quite like it, it if oft considered too different and one that the band’s record labels now overlook the existence of. The closest I’ve come to them is seeing Triptykon live a few years ago, which is essentially seeing one member playing in a different band.A 12" x 12", 40-page book, brings together photography — some previously unseen — from the era and brand new interviews with Tom Gabriel Warrior and Reed St Mark. I was contacted by BMG about this box set almost a year ago, and the very first thing we worked on was the actual vinyl because of the backlog at pressing plants. As is known from uncounted stories from uncounted bands, Noise Records was a label that made it very difficult for artists to be creative and to work with any kind of strategy.
